Chelmsford is centrally located between two major airports. Boston’s Logan Airport is 31 miles to the southeast and Manchester Airport is 24 miles to the north; for regional service, Laurence G. Amtrak’s high-speed Acela Express, connecting Boston with New York City, is available in Woburn, 17 miles to the southeast.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) Commuter rail service to North Station, Boston, is available from Lowell (travel time 45-49 min.; 680 MBTA parking spaces), and Billerica (travel time 37-41 min.; 333 spaces).
Chelmsford is a member of the Lowell Regional Transit Authority (LRTA),which provides scheduled bus service between Lowell and Chelmsford. The LRTA provides fixed route bus services and paratransit services to the city and 14 surrounding communities. These connect at the Gallagher Intermodal Center to the Lowell Line of the MBTA commuter rail system, which connects Lowell to Boston. The terminal is also served by several intercity bus lines including Greyhound and Peter Pan.
